Sultan of Selangor Breaks Fast with the Rakyat at Masjid Bukit Jelutong

BUKIT JELUTONG, Friday, 12 July 2013 The Sultan of Selangor, D.Y.M.M. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, attended a breaking of fast event at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah here this evening.? ?

The event was jointly organised by Sime Darby Property and Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS). Some 3,000 people including residents of Bukit Jelutong, disadvantaged members of the community and new converts joined the Sultan of Selangor in performing the special Iftar. ??

During the event, the Sultan of Selangor handed out Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions to the homeless, orphans and other needy Malaysians.

Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke Salleh, President & Group Chief Executive, Sime Darby Berhad, also presented the Group's zakat contribution of RM1 million, which was received by the Sultan of Selangor.

Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke said, It is indeed a privilege that His Royal Highness has chosen to break fast with his loyal subjects at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah. We are blessed to have a monarch who truly cares for the welfare of his subjects and have taken the time from his busy schedule to be amongst us, he added.

As a key player in the Malaysian economy as well as a diversified multinational, the Sime Darby Group and our business divisions are committed towards contributing positively to the communities we operate in, whether locally or abroad.? In particular, Sime Darby Property's contribution this evening is in line with our commitment as a corporate citizen to play an important role and share our benefit with our stakeholders and enrich the lives of the disadvantaged in our community in Selangor specifically, Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Bakke explained.

Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah was built in memory of the Sultan of Selangor's late grandmother, Almarhumah Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, who was also Malaysia's second Raja Permaisuri Agong. The construction of this RM25.5 million mosque was funded in part by the Selangor Royal Family, specifically from the wakaf of Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj; the Selangor State Government; Sime Darby Property, as the developer of the Bukit Jelutong township; as well as personal contribution from the members of the community of Bukit Jelutong.

Officially launched by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor and opened to the public in March 2013, Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah is able to accommodate 4,000 worshippers. The mosque was also purpose-built to serve as a community centre as it includes a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre, an exhibition room, lecture rooms and a childcare centre within its premises.? ?

Dato' Wahab Maskan, Group Chief Operating Officer of Sime Darby Berhad and Managing Director of Sime Darby Property Berhad, said, In line with Sime Darby Property's vision to become a leading developer of sustainable communities, we have envisioned the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah to be designed as a?? sustainable and unique landmark in Selangor and Shah Alam reflective of its?? traditional Islamic architecture.? It is also a focal point for the community to congregate and interact with each other, fostering greater community spirit and do their duty as responsible Muslim.

As the Holy Month of Ramadhan encourages compassion and charity, Sime Darby Property worked closely with Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) to organise this memorable 'berbuka puasa' and handing over the 'zakat' event in this mosque, Dato' Wahab concluded.
