Subang Jaya, 28 March 2015 - Sime Darby Property Berhad organised a community environmental engagement initiative at its township in USJ Heights, Subang Jaya today, as an effort to foster closer ties within the community while inculcating the importance of environmental awareness.
The initiative is part of the company s on-going large-scale green sustainability programme called Together in Restoring the Earth s Environment or T.R.E.E.
The tree planting event was officiated by Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) Councillor Mohd Saifullah Mohd Zulkifli. Present on behalf of Sime Darby Property were Senior Vice President, Property Malaysia, Mohd Salem Kailany, Head of Township USJ Heights, Noraliza Mohd Ali and Head of Sustainability and Quality Management, Mohd Pouzi Che Nik.
One hundred trees from the Threatened Rainforest Trees list were planted, such as the Hopea odorata (Chengal pasir), Agathis borneensis (Damar minyak) and Shorea leprosula (Meranti tembaga).
These species, all native to Malaysia, were chosen based on the list of Threatened Rainforest Trees as classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
A recycling competition was also organised for the residents children, with interesting prize giveaways.
Senior Vice President, Property Malaysia of Sime Darby Property, Mohd Salem Kailany said, When it comes to environment conservation and embracing a sustainable lifestyle, it is a collective responsibility. That is why we have developed our T.R.E.E. programme that engages the community in a bigger way. We are also happy to see such a good turn out and we appreciate the enthusiasm and support shown by the members of the USJ Heights community.
This is the seventh green initiative under the programme following similar efforts in Denai Alam, Bukit Jelutong, Bandar Bukit Raja, Nilai Impian, Melawati and Putra Heights townships previously.
Each planted tree is tagged with a description of the species, name of the tree planter and the date it is planted.
The particular tree will remain as part of each family's heritage in USJ Heights, to be inherited by future generations.
Through various programmes and with the collective efforts of our stakeholders, including the communities across our townships, we hope to enhance the environment and reduce carbon emission in the fight against climate change as these are our key focus areas, Mohd Salem added.
Sime Darby Property Berhad remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold its aspiration in Building Sustainable Communities . The successful tree planting initiative in USJ Heights has brought the total number of trees planted under its tree planting initiatives to over 48,000 to date.
