London, 7 May 2014 - Battersea Power Station Development Company (“BPSDC”), on behalf of the shareholders of Battersea Power Station, is pleased to confirm strong progress with the London-only sales programme for the 254 homes in the Power Station itself.
In the first week of sales, reservations have been taken for 95% of the properties with many buyers intending to owner occupy having been attracted by the larger than average unit sizes and high specification interiors. 75% of purchasers of the Phase 2 homes are UK residents.
Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of the Battersea Project Holding Company, said: “We are very pleased with the Power Station residential sales to date and would like to thank everyone that has shown interest. The sale of these unique homes underpins the restoration of the Grade II listed Power Station and is a key milestone in opening up the London landmark to the public.”
The start of the Phase 2 launch coincided with the project’s first annual party on 30 March, attended by more than 2,500, held to thank everyone who has played a role in helping to redevelop one of the country’s most iconic buildings.
British singer-songwriter, Tom Odell, was the opening act for his idol Sir Elton John during the free concert. The “Rocket Man” serenaded the crowd for more than an hour with a collection of his classics including Your Song, Tiny Dancer and Benny and the Jets. Sir Elton told the audience: “I never thought I’d be playing in Battersea Power Station. It’s going to be an amazing development.”
Tan Sri Liew, on the choice of the main performer, said: “We wanted a British star that is globally recognized, well-loved and of course evergreen, which encapsulates what Battersea Power Station is today, and we couldn’t have found anyone better than Sir Elton.”
Battersea Power Station’s first anniversary party also marks a successful year since the launch of Phase 1. Significant construction progress has been made on Phase 1 and restoration-works to the Grade II* listed power station building has also commenced. The Northern Line Extension to Battersea Power Station is also on-track, and contract award for the main works is expected in early July 2014. Preliminary on-site works for this key piece of infrastructure serving the project is expected to commence towards the end of this year with the main works expected to begin in spring 2015.

The 254 unique homes fall into two distinctive styles across three different locations of the building: The Switch House East, The Switch House West and at the very top - Boiler House Square.
A number of the apartments will sit within the original fabric of the building, amongst the exposed brickwork and industrial fittings, whilst the other element will be a panoramic, glazed style with incredible views positioned on top of the Power Station looking out over the river or back onto the famous Boiler House façade. All the homes will have access to over 1.5 acres of spectacular roof top gardens to be designed by Andy Sturgeon Garden Design and a large number will also have their own private outdoor space. Homes located in the Boiler House Square will open on to a new ‘London Square’ on the roof.
London based interior designers Michaelis Boyd Architects have designed the interiors creating a style for this building that they describe as ‘refined industrial authentic, highly tactile and visually dramatic.’ The design takes simple, raw materials and expresses them through smooth finishes of the highest quality. From stunning wood flooring to polished concrete and raw brass fittings, every detail of the interiors will speak of the building’s heritage and design detailing which has made it such a famous example of art deco industrial architecture.
One of the most unique aspects of these new homes is the variety of sizes and layouts on offer. Within the 254 homes being created there will be over 100 different layouts with virtually no one apartment the same. Duplexes comprise around a third of the homes available which will offer purchasers more opportunity to maximise the incredible views of the building whilst also creating awe inspiring double height space and the sense of ‘loft living’. The apartments will be approximately 40% larger than the average new build developments in London.
Battersea Power Station
The Rafael Viñoly designed mixed-use masterplan comprises a careful blend of over 3,400 new homes as well as offices, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, community and leisure space and 18 acres of open space and over 500 affordable housing units.
The iconic Battersea Power Station, a Grade II* listed building, will form the central focus of the plans and will be carefully restored with public accessibility at its core.
The 42-acre site overlooks over 400 metres of London's famous River Thames, is directly opposite Chelsea and less than a mile and a half (2.4km) from the Houses of Parliament.
The Power Station site is designated as a new town centre for the area, with a new High Street, town square and tube station which will be served by the Northern Line Extension (NLE) of the London Underground.
Battersea Power Station is contributing over £200m to the NLE, which was guaranteed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne in the Autumn Statement of November 2012.
Battersea Power Station is creating an estimated 15,000 new jobs in Battersea, which, together with the investment in infrastructure and new homes, means the project is a significant benefit to the UK economy.
The Battersea Power Station site is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprising S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees’ Provident Fund. The development management of the project is being undertaken by British based, Battersea Power Station Development Company.
Battersea Power Station received outline Planning Consent in August 2011 and work commenced on site on the 4 July 2013.
