New Mosque for Sime Darby Property s Bukit Jelutong Community

SHAH ALAM, 8 March 2010 - Residents of Bukit Jelutong in Shah Alam will soon have a new mosque that will also serve as a community centre - bringing even more convenience to the community and its nearby neighbours.

The RM23 million Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, named after the Sultan of Selangor s late grandmother will be built with funds from Sime Darby Property which has contributed RM 6 million, the Selangor Royal Family which has contributed RM 6 million from the Wakaf (fund) of Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj and the balance contributed by the Selangor State Government.

In addition to this, the residents of the township have also initiated a fund collection as their contribution to the construction of the mosque.

At the ground breaking ceremony today, the construction of the mosque was given the royal decree by YAM Tengku Sulaiman Shah Alhaj ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Tengku Panglima Diraja Selangor, who was representing the Sultan of Selangor and the Selangor Royal family. Following the ceremony, YAM Tengku Sulaiman also received a cheque for RM200,000 from a representative of the residents of Bukit Jelutong.

We are honoured that the Selangor Royal family has chosen Bukit Jelutong to build a mosque in memory of the Sultan s late grandmother Almarhumah Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, said Dato Tunku Putra Badlishah, Managing Director of Sime Darby Property. He also thanked the Selangor Royal Family, Selangor State Government and the residents for their contribution to the mosque funds.

Dato Tunku Putra Badlishah also expressed his special gratitude to the residents of Bukit Jelutong for making the effort to collect funds in contribution to the building of the mosque as it symbolises the community spirit of the residents. During the times of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. mosques were the centres of community activities, and similarly we hope this new mosque will be a prominent feature in the development of the community, he added.

The design of the new mosque, which will be able to accommodate 4,000 worshippers, is based on traditional Middle Eastern Islamic architecture featuring pointed arches framing the access to the interior sections of the mosque. Other key features of the design include interior courtyards with water features, a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre, an exhibition room, lecture rooms and a childcare centre.

The mosque is scheduled to be completed by 2012.

As a leading community builder, Sime Darby Property has always been proactive in ensuring the well-being of its residents and enhancing the value of the properties in its townships. Last year the Company built and opened to the public a RM65 million Interchange in Putra Heights for public use that was fully funded by the Company. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Sime Darby Property also initiated a Safe-City concept in Ara Damansara that included the installation of 22 Units of Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTVs), donation of 3 Police Patrol Cars as well as building a Police Station in the township.
