PETALING JAYA (Sept 21): Battersea Power Station, which is developed by a consortium that consists of S P Setia Bhd, Sime Darby Property Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund, is now connected to the city via the new Northern line extension.
Running from Kennington to Battersea Power Station via Nine Elms, the line extension was opened on Sept 20. The opening sees Battersea Power Station boosting a new Zone 1 London Underground station.
In a statement, Battersea Project Holding Company chairman Datuk Ahmad Pardas Senin noted that the launch of the Northern line extension is an historic moment in British transport history.
“We are delighted to have been able to support and contribute to this pivotal infrastructure project, which is set to significantly enhance the connectivity of this part of London,” he said.
According to Battersea Power Station Development Company chairman Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, this new mode of transport is a gamechanger for Battersea and Nine Elms, which makes Battersea Power Station one of the most well-connected destinations in the capital.
The line extension makes the journey times to the West End and the City to be approximately 15 minutes.
Battersea Power Station Development Company CEO Simon Murphy reckoned that improving transport links and connectivity to this area of London has been fundamental to the development from the very beginning.
“As we countdown to the Power Station opening its doors to the public next year, we look forward to welcoming more visitors travelling on the new tube line from across the capital and further afield to enjoy the thriving riverside neighbourhood we are creating here at Battersea Power Station,” he said.
