Potential homeowners will move into a home powered by green energy, able to sell excess energy to TNB under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme and manage energy smarter, through smart meter and home energy management systems.
Sime Darby Property today inked an MoU with TNBX Sdn Bhd (TNBX), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for the latter to provide the Smart Green Home solutions, the first of its kind for the country. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Asian Utility Week 2019.
Sime Darby Property Chief Operating Officer (Integrated), Mr. Quek Cham Hong said the MoU brings the company a step closer towards realising its low carbon society agenda and product innovation.
“The provision of Smart Green Home solutions in Elmina Grove is a big step forward in supporting the government’s aim to increase the usage of renewable energy in Malaysia. This partnership is also in line with our sustainability agenda in promoting sustainable lifestyles, minimising environmental impacts and ensuring the well-being of future generations by embracing sustainable practices across our business,” said Sime Darby Property Chief Operating Officer (Integrated), Quek Cham Hong.
The new residential development is the first out of four phases within the City of Elmina’s first landed strata precinct, Elmina Grove. The first phase will offer 513 units of “Multi-Generational Homes” with an estimated gross development value of RM324 million, covering an area of approximately 34.8 acres.
Mr. Apollo Leong Yong Kuan, General Manager (Business Unit 1) signed the MoU on behalf of Sime Darby Property while TNBX was represented by its Managing Director, Ir. Nirinder Singh Johl. The signing was witnessed by YB Puan Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, Chief Retail Officer of TNB and Quek.
Ir. Nirinder Singh Johl estimated that a total of 1MW of green energy will be generated based on the solar panels to be installed on all 513 upcoming residential units at Elmina Grove. The savings are estimated to be up to 50% for electricity bills above RM200.
He also said that the win-win collaboration between major property developers like Sime Darby Property and energy solutions providers like TNBX will help accelerate the pace of carbon emission reduction in Malaysia, while meeting the needs of the future in a sustainable, reliable and affordable manner.
With the support of TNB’s other subsidiaries such as GSPARX Sdn Bhd and MAEVI Sdn Bhd, TNBX is able to offer customers the added value of an energy related solutions provider, as a one-stop centre. TNBX can be reached at tnbx@tnb.com.my
