Sime Darby Property initiated the second T.R.E.E programme with residents of Bukit Jelutong, making it the second township to carry out the programme following its launch in March this year. Together in Restoring the Earth's Environment or T.R.E.E in short, the programme is aimed to enhance the greenery of all the Sime Darby Property townships while creating awareness among residents, particularly the children on the importance of environmental preservation.
The event, of?ciated by YBhg Tuan Mohtar bin Hani, Deputy Mayor of Shah Alam was attended by nearly 300 residents who had signed up for the ‘green’ initiative to plant Endangered, Rare and Threatened (ERT) in the township.
As a symbol of greening the earth for generations to come, three tree saplings were presented by the Deputy Mayor to three children representing the future generation of Bukit Jelutong, namely Akmal Hadi, 10, Sevvithaa A/P Baskaran,10 and Lee Su-Anne, 12.
This was later followed by the handing over of the ‘Green Spade‘ by Tuan Haji Azman to Encik Mohammad Zulkifli Ismail, Head of Sime Darby Property’s Bandar Bukit Raja Township where the next T.R.E.E programme will be carried out.
A total of 160 trees were planted on that day by residents of Bukit Jelutong, employees of Sime Darby Property and MBSA, as well as their respective families. Among the trees planted Shorea Leprosula or Meranti Tembaga, the Dryobalanops Aromatica or Kapur and the Azaderachata Excelsa/Melia lndica or Sentang/Semambu which were listed as endan- gered, rare and threatened.
Each tree was labeled with the family name who planted it to enable them to monitor the growth of their respective trees over the years. As a token of appreciation for their green efforts, the families that participated in the tree planting initiative in the earlier part of the day were later treated to a special open air movie screening that evening. The movie which touched on the importance of trees and our roles in preserving them struck a positive chord among residents, reminding them that they had jointly played a pivotal role in the preservation of the earth on that very day and in the days to come.
