Celebrate the public opening of Battersea Power Station at the 'Festival of Power', a series of live performances, family friendly activities and installations across two weekends. Photo: John Sturrock 

The countdown has begun for the public opening of Battersea Power Station on Friday 14th October 2022, marking the first time Londoners and visitors from further afield can explore inside this iconic Grade II* listed landmark and enjoy its mix of shops, bars, restaurants and leisure venues. To celebrate this historic moment, a free, five-day ‘Festival of Power’ will run Friday 14th – Sunday 16th October, and Saturday 22nd – Sunday 23rd October, with a programme of live performances, family friendly activities, installations and more to celebrate
the historic milestone.

Headlining the festival is Arcadia’s Lords of Lightning, a duelling spectacle involving multimillion volt bolts being fired between the two ‘Lords’, hosted in the six-acre Power Station Park on the evening of Friday 14th October from 7 pm. Visitors will also be able to enjoy various forms of entertainment including walkabout performers, acrobats and brand activations.

Other highlights will include the official countdown to the Power Station opening its doors from 10am, which will take place in Malaysia Square to the south of the Grade II* listed building. Throughout the Festival of Power, visitors can enjoy live music including a special performance from the Battersea Power Station Community Choir following the official countdown moment, ‘Emerge Showcase’ from World Heart Beat Music Academy featuring up and coming talent aged 16 – 25 years from the Battersea and Nine Elms area and the Setia Drummers, a troupe of Malaysian drummers. Other musical highlights include performances from local classical music company, Young Guns, local radio station, Riverside Radio, will be broadcasting live from Battersea Power Station and Sound Minds will present a special ‘Breathe’ programme with live acoustic performances.

Guests can also explore the Bright Sparks Trail - a brand new trail app which leads users through the history of the Power Station, with geo locations, photo uploads, trivia, quizzes and missions, leading visitors to secret live performances across the site, from an RAF pilot to a Busk in London busking stage. Budding musicians can even enjoy their own moment in the spotlight, with a ‘people’s piano’ located inside Turbine Hall B which is free for visitors to play. You might also spot a Batmobile along the way...

Festivals can be hungry work and the good news is that there will be plenty of delicious food and drink available from the first wave of new restaurants, cafes and bars opening at Battersea Power Station from 14th October, including Control Room B from Inception Group, a 1950s style all-day bar within one of the Power Station’s original control rooms. Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are, Poke House and Clean Kitchen Club will also be serving up a treat, as well as some of the capital’s best food and drink pop-ups which will be situated along the riverwalk in front of the Power Station. Visitors looking to enjoy the neighbourhood riverside settings, can dine in restaurants and bars situated in the first completed phase, Circus West Village, including Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume, Vivek Singh’s Cinnamon Kitchen, Wright Brothers, Tapas Brindisa or Gordon Ramsay’s Street Pizza to name a few.

The Festival of Power accompanies the first British and international brands opening up shop inside the Power Station’s unique Turbine Halls, which have been restored back to their former glory. New stores opening from October include Ralph Lauren, Mulberry, Theory, Lacoste, Polestar, Aēsop, Space NK, Ace + Tate, lululemon, Hugo Boss, Jo Malone London, Uniqlo and Mango. A new neighbourhood bookstore, Battersea Bookshop, from specialist bookseller Stanfords and a pop-up from Curated Makers, which will host more than 40 local independent small businesses selling homeware, candles, clothing, artwork and more will also be opening within the Power Station. Further brands will open throughout the rest of 2022 and into 2023.

Also opening in October is Lift 109, a unique glass elevator experience inside the north west chimney, offering epic panoramic views of London from a height of 109m from ground level. The new pedestrianised high street between Gehry Partners’ Prospect Place and Foster + Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens, Electric Boulevard, will be the main gateway between the Power Station and the neighbourhood’s Zone 1 London Underground Station. Brands already announce to be opening on Electric Boulevard from 14th October include international high street favourite, ZARA, Korean food and culture hub, Oseyo, specialist opticians, David Clulow and a new concept M&S Food Hall. London fitness brand, Third Space, will also be opening a 28,000 sq. ft. club in 2023.

The public launch of Battersea Power Station and Electric Boulevard follows the opening of Circus West Village in 2017, the first completed chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, which is already home to over 1,800 residents and more than 20 bars, restaurants, cafés, fitness and leisure venues.

Getting to Battersea Power Station couldn’t be easier, with the Northern Line extended to give this new riverside neighbourhood its very own Zone 1 London Underground station, putting the riverside neighbourhood within 15 minutes of the West End and the City. Alternatively, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers service docks directly outside Battersea Power Station Pier, District & Circle Lines service Sloane Square Underground station which is a 15-minute walk away, trains to Battersea Park and Queenstown Road are within 12 minutes on foot, bus routes 44, 137, 452, 156, 344 and 436 all stop at Battersea Power Station and the riverside neighbourhood has its own Santander bike docking station.

Prospect Place is the first residential projec of globally renowned architectural practice Gehry Partners and Battersea Roof Gardens, designed by Foster + Partners, will house new residences, terraced retail and leisure offerings, and a 164-room art’otel, the brand’s first to open in London.
• With the recently opened Zone 1 Battersea Power Station Underground station on the Northern Line Extension, the development is only a 15 minute journey from the West End and the City.
