SUBANG JAYA, 5 March 2008 - Sime Darby Property signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) to upgrade the existing school field belonging to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ4.Once completed, the facility will be maintained by MPSJ, as part of its commitment to promote healthy, vibrant and integrated communities. The MPSJ has been actively providing recreational facilities for the residents of USJ Subang Jaya at several locations within the township.
Sime Darby Berhad President & Group Chief Executive Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubir Murshid said as a responsible corporate entity the company is committed towards promoting the development of healthy, vibrant and integrated communities, especially in the township that was developed by it.
“We are committed towards developing sustainable futures for all our stakeholders and it is our intention to create sustainable communities within our townships. We believe that the children within this community will benefit greatly with the upgrading of this field, he said.
At the signing ceremony held here today MPSJ was represented by its President Dato’ Adnan Bin Hj. Md. Ikshan; SMK USJ4 by its Principal Datin Rohani Binti Mustaffa and the Subang Jaya Community Sports Club (SJCSC) by its President Dr Mohamed Amin Bin Mohd Kassim.
Also present at the event were MPSJ Councillor Dato’ Lee Hwa Beng, Selangor State Government Financial Officer Dato’ Mohd Arif Bin Ab. Rahman, and Deputy Director Haji Bajuri Bin Abdullah.
During weekdays, SMK USJ4 conducts various sports and extra curricular activities, while during weekends it has extended the use of the field to the SJCSC for its sports-related activities.
The arrangement, which has been in place since 2000, has benefited hundreds of children in the Subang Jaya community taking part in the Subang Jaya Youth Football League, organised by SJCSC. However, the current dilapidated condition of the field led the sports club to spearhead efforts to refurbish the field.
SJCSC, which was formed in 2000, has successfully organised various activities, such as Youth Football League, Girls Futsal, Family Bowling Competition, Frisbee and other events on a true spirit of volunteerism. To date, it is seen as one of the major drivers of community development in USJ Subang Jaya, creating healthy and integrated families emphasising the core values of Unity, Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Discipline, Service and Unity.
The Club has also organised smart parenting seminars, Teen - abstinence from Sex & Drugs Workshops and annual food donations to charitable institutions. These unique flavour offered by SJCSC has attracted many members and participants beyond Subang Jaya.
